Ford County Emergency Communications is always looking for persons to accept the challenges in helping keeping the community safe.

Ford Coutny Emergency Communications is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Dodge City and the municipalities of Ford County, Kansas. We are a combined Communications Center providing 9-1-1 emergency services and non-emergency services for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical resonses. We are a 24/7 center.


Our Mission: The mission of the Ford County Communications Team is to instill confidence and trust in the citizens and agencies of Ford County, by providing effective leadership in Emergency Communications.


Starting Salary: $12.25 an hour for full-time and part-time. Wages will increase with certifications, specialized training, promotion, performance evaluations, or as permitted by the budget.

Benefits: Full-time employees of Ford County will receive (2) two weeks paid vacations per year, health, dental and prescription plan, life insurance and eleven paid holidays a year or as selected by County Commission.

Requirements: Must be able to accurately, quickly, and courteously receive emergency and non emergency telephone calls for assistance from the public for law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services and other public safety services. You must be anle to obtain the essential information required by the call category in a timely manner. Accurately and quickly assign and dispatch the appropriate units and resources to law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services and other agencies and resources. Accurately, and in a timely manner, use computer-aided dispatch system facilities for complaint-taking, unit dispatching, coordination of incidents, documentation of all pertinent data and transmission and retieval of information through local, county, state and federal law enforcement data networks.


Communications 911 operators must obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) and National Crime Information Center(NCIC) certifications. We are a combined Ford County/Dodge City Communications Center and work closely with all of the local, state and neighboring government offices.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to use computer aided dispatch system
  • Type 35 wpm or better,
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system,
  • Sufficient speech, vision, hearing and communications skills, to perform the job required.
  • Be able to work "shift work" - weekends and holidays.

We work 12 hour shifts;

  • DAY SHIFT :       0800 to 2000
  • NIGHT SHIFT:    2000 to 0800

Successful applicants must be able to pass a background investigation check and have or be able to obtain a vaild Kansas driver's license.

CODE RED

When emergencies occur…awareness is the key to your safety!

 

Residents of Ford County can now be notified of emergency situations by a new, high-speed telephone service. The CodeRED system allows safety officials to send recorded messages to the entire community, or a specific area within moments. These messages will inform residents of the situation and give instructions for action.

 

The CodeRED system delivers messages to a live person, an answering machine, or voice mail to be sure you are adequately informed. The service will be used only for emergency notification, when rapid and accurate information is essential for your immediate safety.
